Expired licenses may be reissued up to 90 days after expiration upon payment of a late fee ($50); practicing after expiration is not permitted. Renewal more than 90 days late is subject to new-applicant requirements (32 MRS §553-A).

Maine licenses renew annually on December 31, but the CE obligation is 48 board-approved hours per 2-year cycle in odd-numbered years: at least 36 Category 1 hours (physical attendance at approved programs) and no more than 12 Category 2 self-instruction hours. Completion certificates are submitted with the renewal form. UNCONFIRMED: the 36/12 Category 1/Category 2 split comes from a CE-provider summary of Board Rule Chapter 6 — the official rule text was not directly reviewed. The Board is reportedly reviewing its online CE rules; no amendment has been adopted as of the research date.
