Maine expressly includes CRNAs among APRNs. Renewal requires 50 CEUs per 2-year period in nursing, medicine, or allied health in the licensed specialty: at least 30 Category I and no more than 20 Category II. CE is attested at online renewal and verified through audit (upload, mail, email, or fax if selected). Current national certification must be maintained as a condition of licensure. Conditional: APRNs with prescriptive authority have additional prescribing-related CE obligations (the Board's Chapter 21 joint rule calls for 3 Category I hours per 2 years on prescribing opioid medication); APRNs who have not prescribed since initial licensure are asked for 15 pharmacology CEUs completed in the prior 24 months. National track (all states): NBCRNA Continued Professional Certification (CPC), now branded MAC (Maintaining Anesthesia Certification), requires 60 Class A (MAC Ed, assessed/prior-approved CE) + 40 Class B (MAC Dev, professional development) credits per 4-year cycle, plus quarterly MAC Check knowledge checks and 2-year check-ins.
