Renewal: Licenses renew annually on or before July 1 (W. Va. Code §30-16-15). CE hours must be completed before June 30 and submitted with the renewal. Doctors first licensed in the year of graduation (e.g., licensed after June 30, 2025 for the 2026–27 renewal) are exempt from CE until the next renewal year.

Reporting
Submit certificates of completion with the annual renewal application; program sponsors also report attendance lists to the Board.
Grace period
Renewal materials postmarked after July 1 incur a late fee. Materials postmarked after July 31 result in license suspension plus a late fee and reinstatement fee.

West Virginia requires 18 hours of CE each year: 12 in person and up to 6 online. The Board may mandate up to 6 hours in special subjects (communicable diseases, first aid, sexual boundaries, record keeping), announced in the annual renewal notice; no mandatory subjects apply to the 2026–27 renewal. Newly licensed doctors in their graduation year are exempt.
