Renewal: Licenses renew biennially. UNCONFIRMED: the September 30 of even-numbered years deadline is reported consistently by multiple CE providers but was not stated in the Chapter 25 regulation text reviewed. A license expired more than 12 months but 4 years or less may be reinstated with CE for each lapsed cycle plus fees and penalties; expired more than 4 years requires a new application and the SPEC examination (25-5.A).

South Carolina requires 36 approved professional CE hours biennially, with no more than half (18) via distance/online learning, per S.C. Code Regs. ch. 25, §25-5.B. Of the 36 hours, 2 must be in SC Board rules and regulations (max 4 countable) and 2 in risk management including boundary or public health issues. New graduates licensed within the same biennial period are exempt that cycle.
