Oklahoma licenses Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and renews RN/APRN licenses biennially on the last day of the licensee's birth month in even-numbered years. CRNAs must maintain national certification to renew. Under 59 O.S. section 567.3a(F), a CRNA's authority to order, select, obtain and administer drugs must be renewed every two years with eight (8) CE units of advanced pharmacology related to anesthesia administration; these hours attach to the drug authority, not to a general CE total for all CRNAs. The underlying RN-license renewal separately requires meeting one of the Board's five continuing-qualification options (including active specialty certification). Note on national certification: In addition to state renewal requirements, CRNAs must maintain national certification/recertification through the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA). The NBCRNA mandates 60 Class A credits, 40 Class B credits, Core Modules, and 850 hours of clinical practice every 4 years to maintain certification.
