Massachusetts licenses CRNAs as APRNs (authorization attached to the RN license). 244 CMR 5.02 requires 15 hours of CE within the 2 years immediately preceding renewal, with no numeric topic mandates. APRN authorization renews on the licensee's birthday in even-numbered years (244 CMR 8.05). Holders of prescriptive authority have pain-management/opioid education expectations under MGL c. 94C, but 244 CMR 5.00 states no numeric hour minimum. Chapter 260 domestic and sexual violence training is a one-time requirement, not a recurring renewal-cycle mandate: per the Board's FY2022 newsletter, applicants for initial licensure and licensure by reciprocity must take the one-time online course, and existing licensees should have completed it by June 30, 2019. It is separate from the 15-hour CE requirement above. National track (all states): NBCRNA Continued Professional Certification (CPC), now branded MAC (Maintaining Anesthesia Certification), requires 60 Class A (MAC Ed, assessed/prior-approved CE) + 40 Class B (MAC Dev, professional development) credits per 4-year cycle, plus quarterly MAC Check knowledge checks and 2-year check-ins.
