Details

Per the current Iowa rule 481 IAC 782 (05-28-2025 edition): 100 hours of continuing education per biennium (Oct 1-Sep 30), including at least 50 Category I hours. Current NCCPA certification may be used to demonstrate compliance with the requirement. PAs who prescribed opioids during the compliance period must complete 2 hours on chronic-pain opioid-prescribing guidance, counted within the 100 hours (conditional). Iowa's mandatory-reporter training operates on a separate 3-year cadence. The September 30 date reflects the CE compliance-period end established by the current CE chapter; the license renewal deadline itself was sourced from the older IAC 645-326.9.
