All APRNs must complete 5 pharmacology contact hours annually; current national certification satisfies the separate 14-hour RN CE requirement. Conditional: APRNs with DEA registration and a KASPER account must complete at least 3 of the 5 pharmacology hours in pain management or addiction disorders; APRNs authorized to provide written medicinal-cannabis certifications need an additional 3 CE hours annually (diagnosing/treating qualifying conditions, cannabis pharmacology and interactions, cannabis use disorder). CE documentation must be retained 5 years for audit. National track (all states): NBCRNA Continued Professional Certification (CPC), now branded MAC (Maintaining Anesthesia Certification), requires 60 Class A (MAC Ed, assessed/prior-approved CE) + 40 Class B (MAC Dev, professional development) credits per 4-year cycle, plus quarterly MAC Check knowledge checks and 2-year check-ins. Excess Class A credits may count toward Class B. A practicing CRNA must satisfy BOTH the NBCRNA program and the state license requirement above.
