West Virginia statute requires, within five years of the certificate becoming valid, six semester hours of approved credit (with a 3.0 GPA on renewal coursework), a beginning-teacher internship if applicable, and a superintendent recommendation. Renewal coursework may instead be satisfied by holding an MA+30 salary classification or being age 60 or older. Native unit is semester hours. Added 2026-09-30: WVDE required-trainings list (7/31/2024) — dyslexia training (§18-20-10) upon employment for elementary teachers, special educators, and reading interventionists; tiered system of support for early literacy/numeracy annually for K-3 personnel; employment-based, renewal credit hours have no mandated topics.
