Renewal: Optometry licenses expire November 30 of even-numbered years; 30 hours of Board-approved CE are required in each biennial renewal period (49 Pa. Code 23.83).

Entry reflects standard therapeutic-level requirements: T-licensees need at least 6 hours in therapeutics (treatment/management of ocular or oculosystemic disease); G (glaucoma-certified) licensees need at least 4 hours in glaucoma plus at least 2 additional hours in therapeutic pharmaceutical agents. Diagnostic-only licensees have no content restriction. Act 31 of 2014 requires 2 hours of child abuse recognition/reporting CE at every renewal (counts toward the 30). Act 124 requires 2 hours of opioid/pain-management CE per biennium for prescribers/dispensers with a DEA registration (counts toward the 30 but not toward the 6 therapeutic hours). New graduates are exempt from the 30-hour optometric requirement in their first renewal period. Up to 50% (15 hours) may be online/correspondence including webinars, and up to 25% (7.5 hours) may be teaching/publications - these are maximums, not requirements. The Board may waive CE for certified illness or undue hardship. No grace period identified.
