Renewal: Licenses renew April 1 of odd-numbered years; the 20 hours are earned in the two-year period prior to renewal. CE credit must be in subject areas directly related to the maintenance of clinical competence.

20 hours of Board-approved CE in the biennial period preceding renewal under 49 Pa. Code 33.401 (dental hygienists: 20 hours; at least 50% in lecture or clinical presentations, max 50% individual study/instructor/author). Public health dental hygiene practitioners must take 5 public health-related hours within the 20 (63 Pa. Stat. section 122). Provider summaries report a 2-hour Act 31 child-abuse recognition and reporting requirement as part of biennial renewal and current infant/child/adult CPR required but not counted toward CE hours; verify those two items with the Board.
