Verified against the current official Mississippi Board of Nursing rule (Part 2815, Continuing Education Requirements). This supersedes older third-party summaries citing 5 hours (and an older 2-hour proposed figure) for controlled-substance CE — the current rule requires at least 10 hours directly related to controlled substances within the 40-hour total, and no carryover may satisfy those 10 hours. New-graduate APRNs are exempt for the initial renewed period. The 'renewed period' runs January 1 of odd-numbered years through December 31 of even-numbered years; the 40 hours are APRN-specific and distinct from RN renewal CE; up to 20 excess hours may carry over to the next period, except the 10 controlled-substance hours, which must be newly earned each period.
