Renewal: Since May 19, 2025, Idaho OD licenses renew on a 2-year cycle expiring on the licensee's birthday; parity follows birth year (born in odd year → renew in odd-numbered years; born in even year → renew in even-numbered years, first moving to 2-year cycle in 2026).

Confirmed: current rule IDAPA 24.10.01.100 requires 18 full hours of approved optometric CE in each calendar year prior to license renewal, with no more than 9 hours asynchronous (DOPL Board of Optometry FAQ). Pending 2026 rules (reviewed 09/01/2026, before the legislature) consolidate this to 36 hours in the two years before renewal with no more than 18 hours asynchronous — numerically identical over the 2-year cycle. Licensees maintain documentation; Board audits and may refuse renewal without it. Historical 12+6 (non-TPA + TPA pharmacology) tier was replaced by the flat 18/year rule effective 3-28-23.
