Verified 2026-09-22 against OAC 210:20-9-96(a)(1) (rule text current through the 2025 and 2026 Title 210 rulemakings; text captured via LII mirror, crawled 2026): renewal of a Standard Teaching Certificate requires one of three options. Option I (employed educators): minimum 3 years of school experience in an accredited school during the 5-year validity; missing years may be replaced by professional-education college credit (2 years experience + 3 semester hours; 1 year + 4 hours; 0 years + 5 hours). Option II (teachers/administrators NOT employed as such who hold a valid Standard Teaching Certificate): seventy-five (75) points in professional development programs, conferences, and seminars approved by an Oklahoma public school district; combinations of PD points, higher-education credits, and/or teaching experience may also be used, with exact combinations determined by the Professional Standards Section. Option III: two-year certificate issued immediately plus one year of successful employment. The 75-point figure applies ONLY to non-employed holders under Option II — employed holders renew via Option I experience, not points. Standard certificate valid 5 years (OAC 210:20-9-9(c)(1)); renewal applications not accepted before January 1 of the expiration year (210:20-9-96(c)(10)). SB 703 (2025, effective upon approval) amended 70 O.S. 6-154.1 to permit an SDE/OEQA-identified microcredential in lieu of experience/credits for renewal and bars the Board from requiring more staff-development credit than teachers must earn under 70 O.S. 6-158 — it did not change the 75-point figure or the Option I/II/III framework, and no Title 210 rule amendment adopting microcredentials appeared in the 2025 or 2026 rulemakings.
