Tennessee Pharmacy CE category requirements

Verified against Tenn. Comp. R. & Regs. 1140-05-.01 (Cornell LII rendering) and 1140-03-.17 (Cornell LII rendering), with renewal timing from the official Secretary of State rules file for 1140-01 (March 2024 revision): every pharmacist must complete at least 30 hours of continuing pharmaceutical education during each two-year license cycle, including at least 15 hours through live contact programs (a program designated 'live' by the ACPE-approved provider, Board-approved before license expiration, or an out-of-state program approved by that state's board); exemptions exist for pharmacists enrolled in pharmacy or graduate health-science programs or residencies, and the board may waive for emergency, illness, or good cause. Rule 1140-03-.17(13): pharmacists engaged in collaborative pharmacy practice are strongly encouraged (not required) to complete 10 of the biennial 30 hours in topics related to the clinical practice of pharmacy. Rule 1140-03-.17(15): pharmacists holding a current federal DEA license must complete at least 2 hours biennially of CE related to controlled-substance prescribing, including instruction in the Department's treatment guidelines on opioids and chronic pain, counted toward the mandatory 30 hours. Rule 1140-01-.09: licenses are for a two-year period and are renewed on or before the last day of the two-year license cycle.
