Renewal: Registration periods are 3 years; periods may be adjusted so that subsequent renewals occur during the licensee's month of birth. CE hours are prorated at 1 hour per month for registration periods shorter than 3 years.

36 hours of acceptable formal CE per 3-year registration period. CE hours may not be carried over to subsequent periods. Self-study courses are limited to 12 hours per 36-month period (one-third for shorter periods); online courses with live instructor interaction are unlimited. An LCSW is exempt from CE during the first 3-year period after licensure. The 3-hour appropriate-boundaries requirement applies to registration periods beginning on or after April 1, 2023 (per NYSED announcement as reported by NYSSSW).
