20 hours every two years at license renewal under N.J.A.C. 13:30-5.2 (adopted 4/19/2021, 53 N.J.R. 619(c)), including six mandatory hours: 3 hours CPR with practical hands-on certification meeting AHA healthcare-provider standards (AED, choking, rescue breathing; no webinars/distance learning), 1 hour infection control (preventing/controlling infectious diseases, personnel health and safety), 1 hour professional ethics and NJ law on dental hygiene practice, and 1 hour prescription opioid drugs (risks, signs of abuse/addiction/diversion). No more than half (10 hours) may be written/electronic-media distance learning; live synchronous webinars are not counted as distance learning. Biennial renewal due December 31 of odd-numbered years.
