Indiana Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) CE category requirements

Indiana issues APRN licenses to CRNAs — Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist is an explicit APRN category on the Board's prescriptive-authority application. The 30-hour CE rule (848 IAC 5-1-3) applies to APRNs with Prescriptive Authority: 30 contact hours per 2-year period, including 8 in pharmacology, from nationally approved sponsors; the Board audits compliance biennially and accepts current national certification in lieu of the 30 hours at audit. Prerequisite: the Indiana RN license (or out-of-state compact RN license for the APRN–Compact RN license type) must be renewed and active before the APRN renewal can go through; Indiana RNs themselves have no CE requirement. Newly granted prescriptive authority: no CE if granted less than 12 months before expiration; 15 hours (4 pharmacology) if granted 12–24 months before expiration. National track (all states): NBCRNA Continued Professional Certification (CPC), now branded MAC (Maintaining Anesthesia Certification), requires 60 Class A (MAC Ed, assessed/prior-approved CE) + 40 Class B (MAC Dev, professional development) credits per 4-year cycle, plus quarterly MAC Check knowledge checks and 2-year check-ins. Excess Class A credits may count toward Class B. A practicing CRNA must satisfy BOTH the NBCRNA program and the state license requirement above.
