Arkansas APRNs must complete 15 practice-focused contact hours per biennium; alternatively, holding current national certification/recertification or completing academic coursework satisfies the continuing competency requirement (ASBN continuing education rules; Act 86 of 2001). APRNs with prescriptive authority must additionally complete 5 contact hours of pharmacotherapeutics in their area of certification each biennium, 2 of which must cover professional boundaries and Arkansas APRN prescribing rules and laws via the mandatory ASBN course (ASBN Rules, 17 C.A.R section 123-207(h)). National track (all states): NBCRNA Continued Professional Certification (CPC), now branded MAC (Maintaining Anesthesia Certification), requires 60 Class A (MAC Ed, assessed/prior-approved CE) + 40 Class B (MAC Dev, professional development) credits per 4-year cycle, plus quarterly MAC Check knowledge checks and 2-year check-ins. Excess Class A credits may count toward Class B. A practicing CRNA must satisfy BOTH the NBCRNA program and the state license requirement above.
