DC licenses CRNAs as APRNs (Nurse Practice Act §3-1210.03 protects the "certified registered nurse anesthetist" / "C.R.N.A." titles). APRN renewal requires 24 CE hours per 2-year cycle: 15 hours of pharmacology, 2 hours of LGBTQ cultural competency, and 2.5 hours in Director-designated public health priority topics (DC Health 2026 RN/APRN renewal notice OS-26-03-05). Registration in the PDMP is required for holders of prescribing authority. National track (all states): NBCRNA Continued Professional Certification (CPC), now branded MAC (Maintaining Anesthesia Certification), requires 60 Class A (MAC Ed, assessed/prior-approved CE) + 40 Class B (MAC Dev, professional development) credits per 4-year cycle, plus quarterly MAC Check knowledge checks and 2-year check-ins. Excess Class A credits may count toward Class B. A practicing CRNA must satisfy BOTH the NBCRNA program and the state license requirement above.
