Alaska APRNs must maintain current national certification and demonstrate continuing competency via two of three methods: (1) 30 contact hours of continuing education, (2) 30 hours of uncompensated professional activities, or (3) 320 hours of nursing employment (12 AAC 44.600). APRNs with prescriptive authority must complete 15 contact hours of advanced pharmacotherapeutics and clinical management of drug therapy within the 30 hours (12 AAC 44.440(f)); APRNs holding a DEA registration must additionally complete 2 hours of CE in pain management, opioid use and addiction. National track (all states): NBCRNA Continued Professional Certification (CPC), now branded MAC (Maintaining Anesthesia Certification), requires 60 Class A (MAC Ed, assessed/prior-approved CE) + 40 Class B (MAC Dev, professional development) credits per 4-year cycle, plus quarterly MAC Check knowledge checks and 2-year check-ins. Excess Class A credits may count toward Class B. A practicing CRNA must satisfy BOTH the NBCRNA program and the state license requirement above.
