Details
Virginia's native unit is professional development points: individuals renewing a five-year renewable license must complete 180 points (8VAC20-23-110); totalHours is preserved as 180 points, not converted (1 semester hour = 30 points; 5 clock hours = 5 points per the Renewal Manual). All renewals also require the statutory Child Abuse Recognition and Intervention training (no point value captured, so not modeled as a category); specified history/government endorsements require a 5-point Virginia history/government module. Note: no new five-year licenses have been issued since July 1, 2018 — current renewals are generally ten-year licenses requiring 270 points.
