Utah Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) CE category requirements

Per Utah Admin. Code R156-31b-303(3)(b), an APRN renewing must be currently certified or recertified in the specialty area of practice (e.g., NBCRNA for CRNAs) — no CE hours required beyond that. Only APRNs licensed before July 1, 1992 use the alternative path: 30 hours of approved CE plus 400 hours of practice. An APRN authorized to prescribe controlled substances must also complete 4 hours of controlled substance prescribing CE per renewal (3.5 hours approved education plus the 0.5-hour DOPL online tutorial). Utah also requires completion of an approved online suicide prevention training. National track (all states): NBCRNA Continued Professional Certification (CPC), now branded MAC (Maintaining Anesthesia Certification), requires 60 Class A (MAC Ed, assessed/prior-approved CE) + 40 Class B (MAC Dev, professional development) credits per 4-year cycle, plus quarterly MAC Check knowledge checks and 2-year check-ins. Excess Class A credits may count toward Class B. A practicing CRNA must satisfy BOTH the NBCRNA program and the state license requirement above.
