Texas Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) CE category requirements

Per Texas BON Rule 216.3, APRNs must complete 20 contact hours of CE appropriate to the advanced practice role and population focus each 2-year licensing period, OR achieve/maintain/renew Board-recognized national nursing certification within the licensing period plus meet applicable targeted CE requirements. This satisfies both RN and APRN renewal (the hours are not additive). APRNs with prescriptive authority must complete 5 additional contact hours in pharmacotherapeutics above the 20. Targeted requirements may also apply: 2 hours nursing jurisprudence/ethics every third renewal, a one-time HHSC-approved human trafficking prevention course for direct-care nurses, 2 hours geriatric/older-adult CE if the practice includes older adults, and 2 hours forensic evidence collection CE for ER nurses. National track (all states): NBCRNA Continued Professional Certification (CPC), now branded MAC (Maintaining Anesthesia Certification), requires 60 Class A (MAC Ed, assessed/prior-approved CE) + 40 Class B (MAC Dev, professional development) credits per 4-year cycle, plus quarterly MAC Check knowledge checks and 2-year check-ins. Excess Class A credits may count toward Class B. A practicing CRNA must satisfy BOTH the NBCRNA program and the state license requirement above.
