Kentucky's subsequent five-year renewal may be satisfied by three years of successful teaching experience or six semester hours of additional graduate credit; this record models the six-semester-hour education pathway. Earlier renewals (first and second) follow different rules in 16 KAR 4:090. Native unit is semester hours. Added 2026-09-30: KRS 156.095 (amended 2025 by HB 48 / SB 2) requires certified school-district employees to complete at least 1 hour of suicide prevention every 4 years, plus active shooter, child abuse/neglect, and seizure-disorder trainings; employment-based, KY certificate renewal is not CE-hour-based. No fixed hour counts for the latter three.
