South Dakota requires six education-related transcripted credits per five years: bachelor's-degree holders need at least 3 transcripted credits with the remainder as continuing-education contact hours (15 CECH = 1 credit); advanced-degree or National Board holders may use any combination. At least one clock hour of suicide awareness and prevention training is also required. Native unit is transcripted credits; totalHours is not converted. Added 2026-09-30: SB 129 (Jason Flatt Act, eff. 7/1/2017) directs the Board of Education to require a minimum of one hour of suicide awareness & prevention training for issuance and renewal of teacher/administrator/educational professional certificates (implemented in ARSD 24:28:16:04, 24:28:17:30, 24:28:17:19).
