Illinois LPNs need 20 approved contact hours per biennium, completed in the 24 months preceding the January 31 (odd-year) expiration. Mandated topics: 1 hour each of sexual harassment prevention and implicit bias awareness, 1 hour of cultural competency every six years, plus 1 hour of Alzheimer's/dementia training for LPNs treating adults 26+ and mandated-reporter training every six years for those working with children. LPNs renewing for the first time are exempt from the 20-hour requirement.
