Delaware DPR states that if a nursing license is not renewed before its expiration, the license expires and it is illegal to practice while it is expired. A late renewal application may be filed within two months after the expiration date, paying a late fee in addition to the renewal fee; the late period is not a grace period, and the nurse may not resume practicing until the license is actually renewed to active status. Failure to renew within the two-month late period terminates the license, and resuming practice then requires reinstatement.Verify with board

How compliance is checked

Licensees must retain all original CE certificates or transcripts verifying completion of each continuing-education offering (24 DE Admin. Code §1900 §9.2.5); provider-issued completion certificates must remind the participant to retain the certificate for the period of licensure (§9.4.5.3). CE providers must maintain records on persons awarded contact hours for at least six years from program completion (§9.4.5.1).
