Required categories

Controlled substance prescribing (AMA PRA Category 1 or AAPA Category 1 covering abuse/diversion, VPMS, risk assessment, alternatives to opioids, tapering, law) — licensees with a DEA number or pending DEA application

100 hours of CME every 2 years, of which at least 50 must be AMA PRA Category 1 (or AAPA Category 1), per Board Rule 13-141-001-X §§32.4.1–32.4.2. Current NCCPA certification or recertification during the 2-year period is accepted in lieu of the 100 hours. PAs with a DEA number (or pending application) must also certify 2 hours of controlled-substance prescribing CME at each renewal.
