Licenses must be renewed by January 1 each year (renewable without penalty through January 31); a $50 non-waivable penalty applies after January 31, and licenses not renewed by March 31 become void — practicing without a valid renewal certificate is a Class I misdemeanor. How compliance is checked

Dentists must maintain CE course reports for at least 2 years after course completion and produce them during every Board audit of CE hours (21 NCAC 16R .0203).
