Under the Vermont Rules for Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (eff. 1/1/2025), an attorney's license is subject to nondisciplinary administrative suspension for (1) failing to timely file a certification of MCLE completion or an acceptable makeup plan (with the $50 makeup-plan filing fee), (2) filing a makeup plan but failing to timely certify compliance with it, or (3) a Board audit finding of noncompliance. The Board gives written notice by certified or registered mail; the attorney has 14 days to respond (with compliance, a makeup plan, or a written answer), and failure to timely respond or admitted noncompliance results in immediate license suspension. Separately, Administrative Order 41 §6: failure to file the biennial licensing statement and fee by June 30 brings immediate nondisciplinary administrative suspension.Verify with board

How compliance is checked

The Board may audit an attorney's MCLE compliance; an audit finding of noncompliance triggers the notice-and-14-day-response suspension process. No fixed record-retention period was found in the published rules.
